In February 2020 Street Tree Ltd were contracted to carry out de-compaction at Finsbury Circus. The compaction was the result of works associated with Crossrail, the park being the site of a 40m access shaft for the Crossrail Tunnels.
The park – nestled inside a circle of listed Georgian office buildings was heavily compacted. Street Tree were asked to recommend remediation works to protect the existing mature London Plane Trees and aerate the subsoils to allow drainage over the 3,600m2 site.
Terramol soil conditioners (3500 Kgs) were injected to a depth of 300mm and 600mm throughout the site. In addition, a Biochar soil improver was also injected along the tree canopy drip line to enrich the existing subsoil and enhance water retention.
After the initial de-compaction works were completed, we were also responsible for the supply and installation of 1800 tonnes of soils and 3600m2 of turf.
Working directly for the Corporation of London Street Tree maintained the new park until successful handover.
